Global Career/Transition Coach
Mela Martorano serves as a Global Career/Transition Coach at IMPACT Group leveraging her 20+ years of career development experience in international relocation and career assessment, exploration, transition, and job search services. Her greatest strengths are intuition, empathy, and communication. Her strong recruiting and management consulting backgrounds allow her to understand industry trends, high growth opportunities, and best practices for finding open positions.
Mela relocated twice from Latin America to the United States: once as a spouse to a corporate specialist on assignment in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and later on, after having moved back to her home in Caracas, Venezuela, as an international student to the Boston, MA area.
She is well versed in many assessment tools used in career coaching, including detailed assessment of strengths (Gallup Strengthsfinder and VIA Signature Strengths), personality (MBTI and DISC), vocation, and interests (Strong Interest Inventory). Mela is also familiar with specialized assessments on optimism, entrepreneurial potential, and others necessary for launching in new directions.
Through her coaching sessions, Mela assists clients in developing Emotional Intelligence competencies. She uses a variety of tools based on lateral thinking, right brain activation through art, and other creative techniques oriented to draw out client’s intuition and ability to envision the best possible future occupation for themselves.
In her private practice as an executive coach, she has coached members of Young President’s Organization (YPO) and other senior professionals since 2002. Topics include leadership, emotional intelligence, motivation, delivering negative feedback, and team-building. She has also conducted workshops at Fortune 500s and other companies, and coached executives at HP, Citibank, American Express, and other multinationals both in the South Florida area and overseas.
Mela is certified as a Positive Psychology Coach in Dr. Martin Seligman’s Positive Psychology Coaching Program. She was also trained outplacement, leadership, and team-building. Before founding Cipher Partners, she worked as a Director for Harvard University, where she was responsible for the University’s Diversity efforts. In this role, she counseled many individuals in a variety of career developmental issues.
Along with her extensive experience, Mela holds an MPA from Harvard University, an M.A. in Psychology from Boston University, and an MBA from the University of Tulsa. Her undergraduate training is in Mathematics and Computer Engineering.
