Stop the Summer Slowdown

Let’s face it, summer isn’t a time when productivity is at its highest. Vacations, family reunions and weddings will take their toll on your team’s to do list.

Still, there’s work to be done. How do you keep employees motivated and productive during the final dog days of summer? Here are a few tips:

Communicate Goals. Clear communication is key when it comes to setting goals for the coming months. Get a schedule of employees’ upcoming PTO days – and share your vacation plans as well. Then ensure your team still has the resources available to meet team objectives.

Keep things interesting. Boredom can be another cause of summer slowdowns. Look for ways to mix things up, such as team lunches hosted out of the office to boost camaraderie. Try new ways to inject positive energy into the office environment.

Make it a competition. Offer a reward to the team member who hits summer goals first, such as a small gift card, talent development opportunity or extra PTO day. Send weekly updates to your team to encourage them to keep striving, but remember to keep things fun and friendly.

There’s no reason to let summer fun have an adverse affect on your team’s quarterly objectives. Take the time now to do a bit of planning and make sure there’s an open line of communication for all team members. Then you’re sure to see efforts pay off come Labor Day.
